KUWAIT Industries Company (KIC) was established as a holding company in 1993. KIC is an entrepreneurial pioneer in the State of Kuwait. Its subsidiaries, including Kuwait Aluminium Company, United Glass Company, Kuwait Metals and Arabian Light Metals, are all ISO-9000 certified for quality management systems, while Arabian Light Metals is the first company in Kuwait to gain the OHSA 18001 certification.

KIC is now looking to develop its plan for the building of an alumina refinery on Bubiyan Island, the largest island in Kuwait’s coastal chain, and is seeking a suitable partner.

There are already two giant aluminium smelters in the Middle East and two more are expected to start production by 2008.

At the moment all of these are importing alumina from outside the region, so there is a tremendous potential for an alumina refinery in Kuwait. Aware of its competitive edge, the company is eager to capitalize on the great scope for the growth in alumina refining.

KIC is promoting investor-friendly policies in this type of enterprise and
