THE HOST FOR INTERNATIONAL U.N. INITIATIVE

The significant achievements of the Guayaquil Municipality regarding urban regeneration, citizen participation, municipal reorganization, and health and transport policies crystallized at the end of last year, when Guayaquil was given recognition as a model of good local governance by the United Nations.

Guayaquil was chosen amongst 278 cities worldwide as the next stage for the “Feria de Conocimientos”, a fair of knowledge for the strengthening of local governance in Latin America, which is to be held next June and will bring together local representatives from 30 countries in Latin America and Europe.

This year’s fair in Ecuador is expected to provide a platform for similar cooperation initiatives and a forum for discussing local planning issues, which will place Guayaquil in the international spotlight.
